The Midi-Pyrénées region is home to the beautiful towns of Albi and more famously Lourdes. Aveyron has more villages classified among the 'most beautiful villages of France' than any other French department, Don't miss a visit to the Millau Bridge (officially Millau Viaduct) This is a road-bridge spanning the valley of the River Tarn near Millau in southern France. It was designed by the renowned 'modern architect' Norman Foster, working with French engineer Michel Virlogeux. Among other remarkable features it is the tallest vehicle bridge in the world. The highest pier has a height falling between that of the Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building. It is recommended to visit the information site on the north side of the bridge, where you can get a historical perspective of the build, but also take the opportunity to walk up to a viewing point high above the bridge itself where you can get some spectacular photos.
